Report on Monitoring of wild birds at potential risk areas of avian flu (H5N1 virus) in Armenia

Project Sites

* Armash fish farm and Khorvirap wetlands

* Natural lakes and human impoundments, irrigation channels and riverbanks in Masis and Echmiadzin regions.

*Small fish-farming ponds, marshes, irrigation channels, riverbanks of Echmiadzin and partly Armavir regions.

Conclusions

Despite that no suspected cases of avian H5N1 influenza were detected and considering the fact the current project is considered a pilot activity and not target all areas at potential risk, it is recommended to continue field monitoring across the country by including all areas with water bodies(Lake Sevan, Lake Arpi and the surrounding wetlands in Tashir and Syunik Marzes)
