ARKANSAS (KFTA) - 31 people have now died from influenza in Arkansas this flu season according to the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH).

Age 0-4 - 1 death
Age 45-64 - 14 deaths
Age 65+ - 16 deaths
The ADH?s weekly flu reported ?widespread? activity to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for a geographic spread and a ?high? level of intensity.

Since September 30, 2018, over 15,200 positive flu tests have been reported to the ADH online database by health care providers.

Last week, the number of tests reported was 11,400, increasing by 3,800 in one week.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The total number of flu deaths in Arkansas this season has climbed to 97, according to the latest report for the week ending March 30 (Week 13).

That's an increase of nine over last week's count.

The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) says 71% of the victims were unvaccinated or had an unknown vaccine history. The majority of the deaths have been in the 65 and over age group.

ADH is aware that 28 schools closed briefly due to the flu this season.
 To date, 113 influenza-related deaths have been reported in Arkansas this flu season, including two pediatric
deaths; 71% of the adults were unvaccinated or had an unknown vaccine history. CDC has reported a total
of 91 pediatric deaths nationwide this season.
 Since September 30, 2018, 12 nursing homes in Arkansas have reported influenza outbreaks.
 The proportion of deaths reported to the National Center for Health Statistics attributed to pneumonia and
influenza (P&I) was below the system-specific epidemic threshold.
 For Week 15, the geographic spread of influenza was reported as widespread in 11 states; Puerto Rico and
20 states reported regional activities; the District of Columbia and 17 states reported local activities; the
U.S. Virgin Islands and 2 states reported sporadic activities; Guam did not report.
