From the Tartagal Anti-Rabies Center it was confirmed that of a number of 140 pets notified as suspected of having contracted leishmaniasis, of 70 the final results are expected to be sent by the University from Salta Capital. On the other hand, the 2022 Rabies Vaccination Campaign has already inoculated 8,989 animals, including dogs and cats, to date.
The data was shared by Dr. Guillermo Alesso (veterinarian); Director of Bromatology in Tartagal; referring to the progress of the Rabies Vaccination Campaign. This week, the area covers the San Roque neighborhood and surroundings, and from the work carried out so far, there are already 8,989 inoculated pets; number that also led him to raise the need for birth control in pets (not counting strays).
"There is no specific sector where leishmaniasis cases are concentrated, it is dotted," said the municipal official on this other issue, although he mentioned neighborhoods located around the downtown area (Villa Güemes and Norte Grande, among them). "We have two types of leishmaniasis and we have to be responsible with pets (...) we have cutaneous and visceral, which is the most serious," he remarked.
He remembered that; because it is public health; It works in conjunction with the Infectology sector of the "Juan Domingo Perón" Hospital (in charge of Dr. Rodrigo Acevedo) and the National University of Salta. "We still have to wait for the results (...) it is important to emphasize that the transmitting mosquito ("torito") has reservoirs in humid spaces and we must control that in homes," he concluded.
