The flu has claimed at least 23 fatal victims in Argentina in that far this year, when three people perish by the virus in the last hours in the province of Buenos Aires, today confirmed to Efe sanitary sources.

Thirty-six people have died from the H1N1 flu virus so far this year in Argentina, local media reported Friday quoting health authorities.

The latest fatality came Wednesday when an infected man died in the remote Patagonian city of San Carlos de Bariloche, some 1,700 km south of Buenos Aires, according to the report.

Health officials said in June that the death toll was higher than the same period last year, but the country was not facing a major outbreak as it did in 2009.

As many as 626 people died in Argentina during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, according to the country's health ministry.

BUENOS AIRES, July 24 (BERNAMA-NNN-XINHUA) -- The H1N1 Influenza A virus has claimed the lives of 38 people so far this year in Argentina, a regional health official said Tuesday following two more deaths in the western province of San Juan.

A representative of the San Juan Ministry of Health, Mauricio Diaz, confirmed the latest two deaths to the press.

Diaz did not reveal the identities of the victims, but indicated they were in the high-risk group which includes those struggling with a chronic disease such as diabetes, the elderly, pregnant women, children under two and those with a weak immune system.

According to official figures, 13 of the 38 victims lived in the province of Buenos Aires, while nine lived in Cordoba, five in Santa Fe, three in Rio Negro, two in the capital Buenos Aires, two in San Juan, and one each in Catamarca, La Pampa, Mendoza and La Rioja.

As many as 626 people died in Argentina during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic that first brought the severe flu to the attention of the public and health authorities.

BUENOS AIRES, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The H1N1 influenza A virus has claimed 43 people in Argentina so far this year, after health authorities Thursday confirmed the death of four patients in the west and one in the east.

Mauricio Diaz, technical secretary of San Juan Province's Health Ministry, told a press conference that the latest victims of the bird flu in the province included "a 40-year-old man who suffered from lupus and three elderly people who were seriously ill."

The Las Flores City Zone Hospital Thursday reported that a 65-year-old man died of the flu in the eastern Buenos Aires province.

"We have six suspected cases, one of them died, and yesterday we received the tests that confirmed type A influenza positive in this patient," the hospital's director Adrian Decundo said.

As many as 626 people died in Argentina during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.
