Vaccination against flu has become personal in Waseca. Mike Milbrath, administrator of Waseca Medical Center, said to his wife Cheryl, exactly a year ago yesterday, "you know, I don't feel quite right."
He took pain reliever that Saturday night and went to bed. He stayed home from work Monday and Tuesday, and went to the doctor Wednesday.

She said he never learned his illness was the H1N1 flu. Her husband's fever spiked to 104 Fahrenheit at night, but dropped to 99 as if going away. He was sent to the Mankato hospital.
"We got over there, he had a temperature. Again that night his temp went down to 99 and I thought, well, we're going home tomorrow," Cheryl Milbrath said. "And then Thursday was his bad day."
H1N1 affected his lungs. By Friday he needed a ventilator.
