FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KAIT) - State health officials are asking any student not immunized with at least two doses of MMR according to University of Arkansas policy will need to be vaccinated after nine cases of the mumps were reported this fall on the Fayetteville campus.

According to a public health directive released by the Arkansas Department of Health Sunday, the students will need to be vaccinated immediately or excluded from class/class activities for 26 days due to state law.

However, a student can return to class immediately after they get the first dose of the vaccine and must get a second dose within 28 days of the second dose.

“As of today, there have been 9 cases of mumps at the U of A this fall and other possible cases are being investigated,” the directive dated Nov. 22 said...

FAYETTEVILLE -- It's not just the normal bumps and bruises the University of Arkansas football program is dealing with in this short Thanksgiving week ahead of Friday's season finale against Missouri.

The Razorbacks (2-9, 0-7), in the midst of an eight-game losing streak, also have to be wary of the mumps.

After an outbreak that has led to nine confirmed cases of the contagious disease on the UA campus, according to the Arkansas Department of Health, all coaches, players and staff in all sports had access to MMR (mumps, measles and rubella) vaccines made available at the Smith Football Center on Monday.

Trevor Williamson, athletic department tutor coordinator, sent an email Monday to tutors that read:

"Two student-athletes have been diagnosed with the mumps and they have been at the Jones Center recently. A few staff members in athletic training have also been quarantined. To be safe, we strongly recommend that everyone get the vaccine."

Interim Coach Barry Lunney Jr. referenced a statement released by the UA athletic department regarding the mumps outbreak when asked how it is affecting the team...

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Department of Health has confirmed 26 cases of the mumps at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville campus since September.

The number of cases skyrocketed for the fall semester from a total of six by the end of October to a total of 20 reported cases in the month of November alone.

In November, a report from the ADH said students that have never received an MMR vaccine needed to be excluded from class and university activities for at least 26 days.

According to Zac Brown with the University of Arkansas’ Health Center, that health policy is still in effect for students who are under-vaccinated or do not have any...

The Arkansas Department of Health has issued a public health directive requiring all U of A employees on the Fayetteville campus to be up-to-date with their measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccinations by Monday, Jan. 13, 2020.
