Contingency planning is an important part of protecting animals. To better help those involved in animal transportation develop these important plans, USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Animal Care is working to better understand and respond to stakeholder needs for contingency planning while transporting animals. Facilities regulated under the Animal Welfare Act are required to develop contingency plans and train their employees on implementing those plans during an emergency.
Knology, an independent research organization, previously conducted a survey of randomly selected Animal Welfare Act licensees and registrants (other than research registrants which were previously surveyed). Knology will conduct another round of the survey in an effort to increase participation. If selected to participate, licensees and registrants will receive an email from Knology.org. Participation is voluntary and the responses will remain anonymous.
Responses to Knology’s survey will help Animal Care develop materials to best support the needs of our stakeholders in developing contingency plans that address transportation.
