I heard today that tests on some dead swans in the CZ have proved negative for H5N1. That's fine, but I've been keeping an eye on my stretch of the river and yesterday there were ducks and swans aplenty. Today there was the head and neck of a crane or heron; two 12"-long dead fish; healthy ducks; but no swans. I have photos of the dead. I'm going to the center of Prague tomorrow and shall have a look for swans. There should be loads of them (there was last week), if there aren't I say BF!

USTI NAD LABEM- The foreigner and border police do not let in the country poultry without veterinary documents in connection with bird flu, the police's spokeswoman Tatana Muselova said.
"Since the disease has appeared in neighbouring Germany, we have had to take measures on the Czech border as well," Eva Haukova, spokeswoman for the North Bohemian foreigner and border police, told CTK.
Two dead birds who are suspected of having died of flu bird, have been found in Slovakia.
All songbirds and poultry must undergo a veterinary examination before they are allowed to cross the border.
"If drivers do not have the relevant certificate, we order the lorry on the side and the regional veterinary administration will make a decision on further procedure," Haukova said.
Clerks can start administrative proceedings, order the return of the load or impose a fine.

PRAGUE, Feb 22, 2006 (PG) - Bottled water said to prevent bird flu has gone on sale in a Czech supermarket, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
The water called Fromin Aktium comes in orange, lemon and grapefruit flavour and is made by Czech company Aquamat, regional daily Rovnost reported.
It is on sale at two outlets of the Hypernova supermarket chain owned by Netherlands-based Ahold.
"The drink is a prevention against all viral-type infections, therefore against bird flu as well," Aquamat manager Ivan Novotny told the paper.
The Czech Republic's chief health officer, Michael Vit, said his office had demanded the firm withdraw the product, describing the marketing as "misleading."
Hypernova spokeswoman Katerina Cerna told Rovnost that it would withdraw the water if the label claiming its anti-bird flu effectiveness is banned. Cerna was not immediately available for further comment.
