Why exclusively does the seasonal vaccination recommendation count now again?
The past Influenzasaison in 2009/2010 was stamped by a new Influenza A (H1N1) virus („ pork flu virus). The production of the seasonal Influenzaimpfstoffes was progressed at the time of the first appearance of the new virus already so far that this could be integrated no more into the seasonal vaccine. However, existed the possibility to produce a monovalenten vaccine against A (H1N1) v in 2009 viruses on time for the season 2009/2010. The constant vaccination committee (STIKO) recommended in this pandemischen situation, therefore, beside the customary seasonal Influenzaimpfung, the vaccination against new A (H1N1) v in 2009 viruses with the monovalenten vaccine available for it.

The epidemiological position has changed since the first appearance of the new virus. On the one hand, a partial immunity exists, in the meantime, as a result of gone through infections or vaccinations in the population. To the other it is expected that A (H1N1) v in 2009 viruses will circulate in the coming season 2010/2011, indeed, once more and also dominate possibly, indeed, a circulation other Influenzaviren cannot be excluded.
Hence, for the coming season 2010/2011 the vaccination with a trivalenten seasonal Influenzaimpfstoff which includes beside the Influenza A (H1N1) v in 2009 components also A (H3N2) - and an Influenza B-virus component is recommended by the World Health Organization as well as by the STIKO.

For whom is the vaccination recommended against the seasonal Influenza?

After the recommendations of the constant vaccination committee (STIKO) the Influenzaimpfung is recommended for all persons more than 60 years, for all pregnant (see also the next question), for persons with raised health danger as a result of a basic suffering (as for example chronic illnesses of the respiratory organs, heart deseases or circulatory illnesses, liver illnesses or nephritic illnesses, diabetes or other metabolism illnesses, chronic neuro-logical basic illnesses as for example multiple sclerosis with pushes getriggerten by infections, innate or acquired Immundefizienz or HIV infection) as well as for inhabitants by old people's homes or nursing homes.

In addition, persons with raised danger (e.g., medical staff) and persons who can act as a possible infection spring for uninoculated risk persons looked by them should be inoculated. Persons with direct contact with fowl and wild birds should be inoculated also (indeed, the vaccination does not protect against the bird's influenza, but problematic double infections are avoided with it).

Anew taken up in the circle of acquaintances for which the vaccination is recommended against the seasonal Influenza, became in July, 2010 the women who are pregnant during the Influenzasaison

Why is the seasonal Influenzaimpfung recommended now also for pregnant?

On account of updated data to the seasonal Influenza as well as while A (H1N1) in 2009-Pandemie of the won experiences which indicate a raised risk of pregnant for heavy illness courses within the scope of an Influenzainfektion recommends the constant vaccination committee (STIKO) from now on the seasonal Influenzaimpfung for all women who are pregnant during the Influenzasaison. The raised complication risk of pregnant hangs together with different physiological and immunologischen changes which run off during a pregnancy in the body. These changes can make pregnant women for virale causes like the Influenzavirus more receptive. Besides, with the vaccination of pregnant the consideration also plays a role to protect the newborn child against an infection by the mother, because Influenzaimpfstoffe are not admitted for children less than 6 months. Newborn children can profit from the vaccination of her mothers also by the fact that about the placenta antibodies by the mother are transmitted to the child who lend a certain protection in the first months after the birth to the newborn child.

Because it concerns with the Influenzaimpfstoffen admitted in Germany dead vaccines, a vaccination is safe basically in every stage of the pregnancy. For healthy pregnant the STIKO recommends the vaccination still only from the 2 pregnancy third. With it it should be prevented that the spontaneous toilets more often appearing in the 1 pregnancy third are associated falsely with the vaccination and become thus in the isolated case for the affected persons a special psychic load. The women with whom also on account of a chronic basic illness an indication exists to the Influenzaimpfung should be inoculated no matter whether they are pregnant or in which pregnancy stage they are.

Why should persons with basic illnesses be inoculated against Influenza?

Persons with basic illnesses have a raised risk to develop heavy or deadly illness courses of an Influenzainfektion. Especially there are endangered, besides, persons who have a Überempfindlichkeit of the respiratory tract or a limited lung function (e.g., persons with asthma, chronic bronchitis, chronically of obstructive lung illnesses), persons with a chronic heart circulation, liver illness or nephritic illness, persons with diabetes or another metabolism illness, persons with a neuro-logical or neuromuskulären basic illness or a limited immune system by a forming the basis illness or drug taking (for instance, Cortison, chemotherapy with cancer illnesses) have. Hence, persons from an age of 6 months with such chronic basic illnesses should be inoculated against Influenza.

Why is the vaccination of the medical staff important against Influenza?

Medical staff stands in direct contact with persons who have fallen ill with Influenza. Hence, the medical staff has a raised risk to fall ill even with an Influenza. The medical staff shows at the same time a possible infection spring for the patients looked by him. With the patients looked by the medical staff it often concerns vulnerable personal groups which have because of existing basic illnesses a raised risk again to develop a heavy course form of the Influenzavirus infection. Hence, the vaccination of medical staff is especially important and serves not only to the personal protection but also the protection of the possibly vulnerablen patients looked by him.

Why is a vaccination recommended to healthy children, youngsters and adults less than 60 years not expressly?

The seasonal Influenzaimpfung is not recommended by the constant vaccination committee (STIKO) for healthy children, youngsters and adults less than 60 years explicitly, because an illness does not walk along in Influenza in this group as a rule with a raised risk of a heavy illness course. In the isolated case the vaccination of a person which belongs to this group can after judgement of the treating doctor.

In the season 2009/2010 has appeared that to younger persons with basic illnesses a raised illness and complication risk had by pandemische Influenza A (H1N1) v. Therefore, should be paid attention in the season 2010/11 especially to the fact that this personal group is inoculated against Influenza.

Does the seasonal Influenzaimpfung also protect against pork influenza?

After the topical recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) the seasonal Influenzaimpfstoff also contains a component A (H1N1) v in 2009 viruses ("pork flu virus") for the coming season 2010/2011. Hence, the seasonal Influenzaimpfung for the season 2010/2011 also protects against the so-called "pork influenza".
