Annapolis Valley Health restricts patient visitation

Immediate family only; those under 12 for compassionate reasons

Due to an increase in influenza-like activity in Annapolis Valley communities, Annapolis Valley Health is restricting patient visitation.

"For the protection of our patients, visitors will be restricted to immediate family only with no more than two family members per patient at any one time," Annapolis Valley Health said in a media advisory. "Also, families coming to the Emergency Department and all other areas of the hospital are asked to limit the number of people accompanying a loved one."

AVH said visits from children 12 years and under will not be permitted unless it is for compassionate reasons. This decision is based upon the fact that children and youth are susceptible to H1N1 and those who attend daycares and schools, may carry the virus home.

Please do not visit if you are ill or not feeling well. All outpatient hospital services are still available. Visitation restrictions will remain in place until further notice.

Annapolis Valley Health reminds the public that regular and thorough hand washing will help prevent the spread of illness. AVH appreciates your cooperation and is sorry for any inconvenience these temporary restrictions may cause.
