Luanda - Angola has recorded no case of yellow fever for more than five weeks, said the director of public health, who attributed the decline of outbreak to vaccination campaign started February this year in Viana district, Luanda.
Miguel de Oliveira was speaking at national meeting on the control of yellow fever, stating that neither new municipality has been affected nor cases and deaths have been confirmed in the last five weeks.
With this data, he said, one can admit that the epidemic is declining due to the response from Ministry of Health.
According to the official, the country notified from 5 December 2015-5 July this year 3.5 million suspected cases of yellow fever with a total of 369 deaths among the suspects and fatality rate of 9.9 percent.
In order to address the epidemic of yellow fever, the Executive set up a commission integrating a technical group of experts from Health Ministry and partner delegations, both national and international.
According to Miguel Oliveira, the intention is to provide each province with at least three hospitals to assist the patients with yellow fever.
The official also pledged that the government will continue to carry out mobilisation and awareness campaigns as the population is the active part of the process.
He put at about 50 percent the population vaccinated against yellow fever in the country.
