Caxito - At least 105 cases of malaria were recorded in the last seven days in Caxito, northern Bengo province, Angop learnt.

According to a note from the local "Abel dos Santos" hospital, another 36 cases of trauma, acute respiratory diseases (25), dermatitis (21), and 20 of acute diarrhoea, were also diagonosed.

In the same period, 21 cases of injuries were also recorded, plus 19 cases of typhoid, 18 of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), dental caries (16), gastritis (16), high blood pressure (13), haemorrhoid (07) and tuberculosis (03) out of a total of 315 patients, against 292 of the previous period.

The "Abel dos Santos" hospital has the capacity to admit 20 patients.

Angola: Malaria claims 260 lives in Angolan province in 6 months

News - Africa news .Sumbe, Angola - Out of 30,960 diagnosed patients, 268 died of malaria during the first half of this year in the coastal Kwanza Sul province of Angola, at the main health units of the region, PANA reported Sunday, quoting a report in the country's news agency, ANGOP.

The statistics data, contained in a communique from the provincial department of public health and control of endemic diseases revealed an increase of 117 deaths in comparison to the same period of 2009.

Five year-old children and pregnant women were most affected.

The communique also said health units are distributing the coartem medicine and insecticide treated mosquito nets, with the view to curb malaria.

Public health services and control of endemic diseases are holding awareness cam paigns for the prevention of illnesses.

During the same period, a total of 63,968 insecticide treated mosquito nets were distributed to pregnant women and children below the age of five.
