Eight people died of cholera in two months

Huambo - Eight people have died of cholera, out of 63 cases reported from December 21 to February 10 in the treatment center of the disease in the central highland Huambo province.


According to the director of the center, Maur?cio Kassoma, all the cases were reported in the city of Huambowith major incidence in the Chivela, Cachindombe and Kalundo suburbs.


Mr Kassoma stated that 10 of the 63 reported cases are children blaming poor sanitation and unclean water consumption for the incidence of the disease.


The first outbreak in Huambo was reported in November 2006 and joint campaigns have been carried out by the province's public health services and non-governamental organizations to sensitize the population on the ailment symptoms namely diarrhea and vomiting.

Angola: Six Cholera Cases Reported in Tombwa

Namibe ? Six cases of cholera desease were reported in the last 48 hours in the municipal hospital of Tombwa, southern Namibe province, inward dr. Tomás Dias told Angop today.

According to the doctor, the distircts of Rocha Magalhães and Pinda are the most hit by the desease due to shortages of potable water supply.

He added that the Namibe province health authority started monday a training action of emergency teams teams to be sent to different places in the province to difuse an awareness campaign to prevent the desease, adding that following the cholera outbreak the province is now under epidemiological surveillance.
