She said, however, that despite the increase in malaria cases, there had been a decrease in the number of deaths compared to those reported in 2020, without specifying comparative data.

As for the positive cases, Sílvia Lutucuta highlighted the month of April as the most critical, given the increase of 322,717 patients, although there was a decrease of 102 deaths.

According to data provided to journalists, the highest death rate from malaria was recorded among children under five and pregnant women, the most affected provinces are Luanda, Lunda Norte, Malanje, Huambo, Uíge , Benguela, Bié and Huila.

She announced that due to the increase in cases, the Angolan executive would continue to make investments to minimize the impact of malaria in hospitals, stressing however that the effective fight against the disease would require a "multisectoral effort".

During the press conference, the Minister of Health spoke of the strengthening of methodological guidelines and supervision, the implementation of the multisectoral emergency plan and the antivirus emergency plan to deal with this disease.

She stressed that due to the increase in cases, satellite units had been created for the treatment of malaria and dengue, in addition to having equipment and drugs.
