Angola cholera outbreak strikes nearly 200 people

At least 194 cases of cholera have been detected in one province of southern Angola since December 20, local media reported Friday.


Some 35 cases have been discovered in the last 48 hours, the director of the Cahama regional hospital told the Angolan press agency, Angop.

The country was rocked by 18 390 cases of cholera in 2007, and in 2012 some 200 people died of the disease.

Cholera outbreak confirmed in Cabinda

Cabinda - Health authorities in Northern Cabinda have announced the existence of cholera outbreak, due to diharroeas cases in the capital city of the province, Angop has learnt.

This was disclosed by the provincial secretary of health, Carlos Zeca, who explained that this can be confirmed through the laboratory exames done in Luanda...

Angola: Drought Contributes to Cholera Outbreak in Southern Angola

Johannesburg ? A protracted drought followed by the onset of the rainy season in southern Angola has triggered a sharp increase in cholera cases, mainly concentrated in Cunene province, where over 1,000 infections and 48 deaths were recorded during a two-week period in November, according to figures from the Ministry of Health...

...A year-long outbreak that started in the slums of the capital, Luanda, in February 2006 and spread to 16 out of 18 provinces, resulted in over 80,000 reported cases and 3,000 deaths.

So far, the current outbreak has remained almost entirely confined to Cunene, although neighbouring Huila province has also recorded some cases.

Since January 2013, the country as a whole has recorded just over 5,600 cholera cases and 190 deaths, about 70 percent of them in Cunene...

Angola: Cholera Cases Increase in Huambo Municipality

Five new cases of cholera is recorded daily in Hambo Municipality since a cholera outbreak took place last month, which claimed eight lives, according to the provincial supervisor for epidemiology watch, Artur Braga.

Artur Braga told ANGOP on Tuesday that up to date 95 cases has been notified adding that the outbreak started with three cases daily at the beginning...
