Andhra Pradesh Health Minister K. Rosaiah called for joint action by various departments and setting up of task forces in districts to control vector-borne diseases even as the first fatality due to dengue was reported from Anantapur district on Sunday.

He said a person from a village, near Puttaparthi, in Anantapur, who was diagnosed to be suffering from dengue, died at a private hospital in Bangalore.



Five confirmed cases ? three from Hyderabad, one each from Srikakulam and Khammam districts ? were reported while a suspected case was reported from Bhimavaram.

Earlier, addressing a conference on `Management of mosquito menace and control of vector-borne diseases,' Mr. Rosaiah said that there was a need to create awareness on a war-footing among people on dengue and viral fevers by highlighting the importance of maintaining sanitation.



It should be a people's movement to eradicate mosquito menace, he said.


Emphasising that unnecessary scare should not be created, he said the Government would seek Central assistance during the Health Ministers' conference convened by Union Minister A. Ramadoss on October 11.



Asserting that there was adequate manpower, he wanted all 21 private and 11 Government medical colleges to create awareness on the viral fevers.


The Minister said that private nursing homes, hospitals had been requested to notify dengue, chikungunya cases to the Director of Health through the State, district epidemic cell. These cells would provide timely medical assistance.

"Eupatorium perfoliatum 200" and "Gelsimium 200" are the preventive medicines available for dengue fever which has already spread in 18 States in the country claiming many lives.
Both medicines have to be taken five times everyday for a week as per the symptoms, says Suresh Somayajulu of Sri Surya Multi Speciality Homeo Centre in the city. Dengue fever occurs when an infected ades aegypti mosquito bites a human.

Symptoms

The fever occurs in two forms - classic dengue and haemorragic fever. In the first form there will be abrupt onset of fever, headache, pain in eyes, and severe backache. Skin rashes will also occur Though the fever stops afterwards, its effects takes a longer time to recover.
In the second form of dengue - haemorragic fever, a severe form, the fever starts with mild symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection followed by sudden onset of haemorrages in the skin. There will also be nose d to death.

KHAMMAM/BHADRACHALAM: Even as the medical and health administration has launched a health offensive, the viral fevers showed no signs of being tamed in Khammam district.

Three more deaths, two due to cerebral malaria and the other due to Chikungunya, were reported in Khammam during the last 24 hours. With this the viral fever toll has gone up to five.

Cerebral malaria claimed Sheikh Ahmed Miyan (35) of Tippanapalli in Chandrugunta mandal and Mutyala Satyavathy (28) of Pattinagar in Burgampahad mandal.

Both died on Monday night and Chetula Nagamani (32) of Morampalli Banjar village in Burgampahad mandal died while being treated at Kothagudem. She was a suspected case of Chikungunya attack.

Twelve-year-old Madhavi of Rajapet Colony in Bhadrachalam was hospitalised following a dengue attack. Her condition is stated to be stable.

Cerebral malaria cases are being reported from Chintur mandal. Tulasipakala, a border village between Khammam and East Godavari, too has reported cerebral malaria cases.

Medical officials told ?this website's newspaper? that this village is the epicentre of cerebral malaria attacks every year.

District malaria officer B Dilip Kumar Babu said as many as 1050 malaria cases have been reported so far in the eight mandals of Bhadrachalam division.

He said as many as 2.88 lakh blood samples have been examined in the malaria endemic areas.

A large number of people from the district are now being treated in various government and private hospitals for dengue, malaria, chikungunya and cerebral malaria.

AP launches anti-mosquito operations​

HYDERABAD: Hit badly by three mosquito-borne diseases this year, Andhra Pradesh on Friday launched 'Operation Dengue', a three-year programme, to stamp out the diseases from the state.

The authorities began the mosquito control programme on a war footing to check the outbreak of dengue, chikungunya and malaria in the state. Also, a campaign was launched to create public awareness on the need to keep surroundings clean.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy launched the programme at Dhoolpet, a slum area here, in the presence of some of his cabinet colleagues and top officials.

Rallies were taken out by school children at different places in the state to create public awareness. The awareness campaign will be taken up every Friday for the next 10 Fridays.

Health officials have so far confirmed eight dengue deaths in the state, 66 confirmed cases and 144 suspected cases of the viral disease.

The state government has already sanctioned Rs 4 million for each of the 23 districts to launch anti-larva and anti-mosquito operations.

District collectors have been directed to set up round the clock epidemic cells to monitor the situation. A door-to-door campaign will be taken up to know if anybody is suffering from dengue fever.

Health Minister K Rosaiah said district hospitals have been asked to open special wards for dengue patients.

More than 22,000 malaria cases and 70,000 chikungunya cases have so far been reported in the state.​
