Rajahmundry (AP), May 21 (PTI) A ten-year-old boy, who was admitted in a government hospital near here following a dog bite, has died, family sources said.V V Saikumar, shifted to Kakinada Government General Hospital on Thursday, died late last night due to rabies, they said.He was bitten by a dog on April 26 and admitted to a primary health centre before being shifted to the hospital in Kakinada, East Godavari district.Saikumar is the third person to succumb to rabies in the district in the last few weeks.

One dies of rabies

SRIKAKULAM: E. Ramaswamy (40), a building worker and sole breadwinner of his family who was bitten by a stray dog one month ago, died of rabies at Itchapuram on Sunday night.

According to locals, the stray dog had bitten almost 20 persons, many of whom were treated in local hospitals. However, Ramaswamy went to a quack as he could not afford to pay for medicines.

When his condition deteriorated, he was rushed shifted to a private hospital at Berhampur in neighbouring Orissa where doctors said it was too late for treatment.

HYDERABAD: A 7-year-old boy Arun from Mahabubnagar district died of rabies at Fever Hospital on Tuesday, health authorities said. The boy was bitten by a dog four months back and was brought to Fever Hospital in a critical condition and was admitted on Tuesday afternoon. Apparently, the boy did not receive the full dosage of the rabies vaccine, health authorities said.

?We lost him within a few hours. We had asked his parents about the rabies vaccine but they could not give a clear history of the vaccination. They just gave one dose of rabies vaccine, which is not enough. They did not follow-up after administering one rabies vaccine,? said Fever Hospital Superintendant, Dr. B.S. V. Manjula. The district health officials once again reiterated that persons bitten by dogs should immediately opt for vaccine doses.

First rabies death in port city

The first rabies death was reported in the 104 area of Port City here.

According to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation(GVMC) Health and Medical Officer, D Abbulu, Mr Kanaka Raju(28) who was bitten by a dog on June 9 was admitted to a private hospital here died last night while undergoing treatment in the Private hospital in the Port city.

July 1: Kaushal Sharma, 11, a resident of Maruthi Nagar in Kushaiguda died of rabies on Friday, though it’s unclear when he was bitten. His parents say that one or two months ago Kaushal was scratched by a dog. They did not see any blood so they washed the wound with soap, applied some medicine and forgot about it. When Kaushal complained of body pains, he was taken to the Fever hospital where the doctor said that he has been bitten by a dog and has rabies.

Parents refuse to accept boy was bitten by dog

The parents of 11-year-old Kaushal, who was bitten by a dog, assumed that he was just suffering from fever. His parents took him to the Nacharam ESI on Thursday, where they were advised to take Kaushal to the Fever Hospital. Nothing could be done as the child was in the last stages of rabies that is transmitted by the saliva of infected dogs. Kaushal was discharged on Thursday evening and died on Friday

Another rabies death in Srikakulam

Srikakulam, July 12: With a 69-year-old man P Appa Rao dying due to rabies at a local private clinic today, the number of rabies deaths has reached three in the district.

Earlier, two deaths including each in Palasa and Itchapuram mandals were reported in the past couple of months even after stringent measures were taken by the officials concerned in terms of making Antiretroviral (ARV) vaccination available at all public health centres and community health centres.

KHAMMAM: Another rabies death was reported at Bhagavath Tanda in Kusumanchi mandal.

B Ramesh, a labourer of Bhagavat Tanda, migrated to Hyderabad a few years ago for livelihood. He came to his native village on July 5 for attending a function at his relatives? house. His 9-year-old son Santhosh was bitten by a stray dog.

On the same day, Ramesh took his son to Nallakunta fever hospital in Hyderabad.

But anti-rabies vaccine was not administered to Santosh at the hospital.

Later, he went to Narayanaguda blood bank hospital, where the doctors administered anti-rabies vaccine to Santhosh. But Santhosh developed hydrophobia and was admitted to a private hospital in Dilsukhnagar.

KHAMMAM, July 23, 2011 Seven-year-old girl dies of rabies

Barely a day after the death of a tribal boy due to rabies, a seven-year-old girl fell victim to it at the remote Sriramgiri village in V R Puram mandal on Friday.

According to information reaching here, N Sowjanya, 7, a class II student of the mandal parishad primary school, died of rabies while being shifted to the government area hospital in Bhadrachalam on Friday evening.

Sowjanya was bitten by a stray dog in the village about two months ago. She was taken to a quack in the mandal headquarters by her parents, sources said.

HYDERABAD: The fear of being infected with rabies has brougth about a widespread panic among people. Cases of rabies victims are being reported almost everyday. They has been a dramatic rise in the number of dog bites and deaths due to rabies. According to P V Ramesh, prinicipal secretary, health, there have been 11 deaths due to rabies as on June 2011 as compared to 23 deaths reported in 2010.
