Anchorage plans vaccination clinic

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The municipality of Anchorage is offering a swine flu vaccination clinic from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Clark Middle School for children age 9 and younger.

The clinic and others planned later this month are for children who received their first dose of H1N1 vaccine through the Anchorage School District and want to get the recommended second dose.

Guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control say it's preferable to separate the two doses by at least 28 days.

City officials say there's a potential for a high turnout and there could be a wait. They encouraged parents to bring in children's vaccination records.

City officials also said people with flu symptoms should attend a public clinic when they are free of symptoms.

All eligible for vaccine at upcoming clinics


The Mat-Su Borough will dispense H1N1, or swine flu vaccine, to anyone six months or older at a mass dispensing clinic.

The clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 17 at Menard Sports Center in Wasilla, at 1001 S. Mack Drive, off the Parks Highway. The state recently made H1N1 vaccine available to the general public.

Borough officials suggest bringing shot records for children who were recently given a live vaccine. The timing of the vaccines should be about a month apart, according to the borough.

Sunshine Community Health Center has also scheduled a clinic for northern Mat-Su residents. That clinic will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Montana Creek Baptist Church, at Mile 98.5 Parks Highway. Vaccine will be given on a first come, first served basis.
