VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - If you had the flu this winter, chances are you had the H1N1 influenza. Almost every case of flu recorded in British Columbia over the fall and winter was of the pandemic strain. However, the numbers are lower than what you'd see for a typical seasonal flu.
Provincial chief medical health officer Dr. Perry Kendall says about 30 per cent of the population caught the flu this winter. "Ninety-seven, 98 per cent of all of the influenzas we were able to culture and identify in this province, and indeed across Canada, were in fact that of the new strain, the pandemic H1N1."
