ALDA's T36? Kills "Swine Flu" Virus

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 15, 2008) - ALDA Pharmaceuticals Corp. (TSX VENTURE:APH) ("ALDA") announces that it has received the results of tests against the H3N2 subtype of influenza A virus ("H3N2"). The tests were arranged by He-Yi She Ye Limited ("He-Yi"), ALDA's agent in China, and conducted in the Department of Infectious Disease within the College of Veterinary Medicine at the China Agricultural University in Beijing. The tests were completed by Dr. Jinhua Liu, who was part of the team that became well-known for identifying H5N1 virus as the cause of an outbreak of avian flu among migratory birds on Lake Qinghaihu, China, in May and June 2005 (Science, August 19, 2005).

H3N2, or "swine flu", is the dominant strain of annual flu in humans and is developing resistance to the standard antiviral drugs, amantadine (Symmetrel), rimantadine (Flumadine) and oseltamivir (Tamiflu). H3N2 has been found in pigs and birds and, more recently, in dogs, leading to increased concerns that the virus can adapt to other species and acquire pandemic potential. In the tests conducted by Dr. Liu, ALDA's T36? formulation killed the virus within 2 minutes using up to 8-fold dilutions and within 10 minutes at a 32-fold dilution.

Dr. Terrance Owen, President & CEO, states, "We have not done many dilution studies with T36? so these results are very informative. The fact that the H3N2 virus was killed within 10 minutes at a 32-fold dilution could open up new markets for He-Yi in China that were not previously considered, such as janitorial applications."
