Alberta's seasonal flu shot plans under the microscope
CHQR Newsroom
9/29/2009
The Alberta government isn't saying if it will follow the lead of five other provinces and put off seasonal flu vaccines this fall.
But provincial health officials say they are looking at contradictory, unpublished reports.
B.C. is the latest jurisdiction to announce it will delay regular flu shots after an unpublished report suggested people who had regular flu shots were almost twice as likely to catch the H1N1 virus.
Ontario, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Nova Scotia made similar announcements earlier.
But in an email from Alberta Health to the Rutherford Show on QR77, provincial officials say that report is unpublished, still subject to peer review, and has not been replicated in other areas.
And the province says it has also received other unpublished data showing the reverse is true.
Alberta Health Services will announce its flu shot plans on Thursday.
