Surge in flu cases prompts health officials to urge Calgarians to get vaccinated

A relatively mild flu season is going out with a bang as the city has seen a surge in influenza cases recently.
There?s even a fear that infections may continue well into the spring.
The last day flu vaccinations will be available at Calgary zone clinics is March 31 and Alberta Health Services recommends that anyone who has passed on it so far consider getting a last-minute shot.
A total of 124 lab-confirmed cases have been seen this season in Calgary through March 3, but 31 of those came in the last week measured.
There were also three outbreaks last week, one in a high school and two in long-term care facilities.
?This is just the tip of the iceberg, it?s only people who?ve had tests done.? said Dr. Judy MacDonald, the medical officer of health for the Calgary zone.
