Bird Flu Outbreak Confirmed in Northern Albania

Cases of bird flu have been identified on a farm in the village of Barbullush in Shkodra.

Following confirmation of the outbreak, 130 birds were euthanized and the premises were disinfected.

Veterinarian Mark Preci told News24 that all farmers must have a certificate for vaccination and being clear of the disease before selling any birds.

During the first week of June, the Albanian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed three separate outbreaks of bird flu.

Samples processed by the Institute for Food Security and Veterinary confirmed the H5N8 strain in Fushe Kruje, Dajti, and Bujan. As a response, the institute has established a crisis center to help coordinate the next steps. They said that the infected animals had been killed, and additional measures have been taken to quell the spread...

300,000 Birds Die of Bird Flu in Albania

Some 300,000 birds have died of bird flu in Albania, and 120,000 will be exterminated.

An outbreak of bird flu was registered in the coastal cities of Durrës and Shijak, and chicken farmers requested help from the government to manage the situation.

In a statement on Tuesday, deputy Minister of Agriculture Ermira Gjeçi said the government is taking care of the exterminating the birds and disinfecting the relevant areas...
