Depression is one of the problems that most affect the people of Lima. According to a recent study by the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia ( UPCH ), 55.9% have the disease.
In addition, 29.9% reported having been victim of anxiety and 11.0%, lack of sleep. Other problems faced are personality disorders and bipolar disorder (see graphics).
The research conducted by Renato Alarcon psychiatrist found that depression is more common in sectors D and E, while anxiety and irritability often afflict those belonging to the upper class.
In addition, 8.5% have, at least, a family member with mental health problems, and 18.4% reported taking sleeping pills.
In this regard, Dr. Alarc?n explained that the moods and emotional conditions are considered important features of emotional health. However, depression and anxiety are highly prevalent medical conditions in our country.
THE DEATH
Other results of the study are of concern are those related to suicide. 27.3% of respondents indicated that it had wished to die, and 15.8%, who thought about suicide. Only 4.9% tried to kill himself. Of that total, 7.3% are located in the lowest sector of society.
Also, the main challenges faced in the Lima daily life are economic (49.0%), healthcare (15.6%) and family (12.5%), among others.
Another result to note is that 26.7% said that the greatest dissatisfaction in your life is the workplace, and 21.9% stated that it is the family aspect.
Meanwhile, 12.8% quite afraid of the future.

- The survey was conducted with a sample of 500 people, including men and women of Lima, of all socioeconomic levels of 18 to 70 years.
- The study found that the 94.0% has not received any psychiatric treatment. 21.1% said the assistance of a psychologist helped him little.
