Alarm after death from dengue number 41 in Dominican

05 of November 2009, 08:54 Santo Domingo, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican health authorities announced today an increase in the intensity of the campaign against dengue, which this year has claimed 41 lives in this country and threatens to spread.
We will take the fields and cities with the help of neighborhood associations, said the health minister Bautista Rojas, who announced he will lead what he described as "a strengthening of the national campaign", declared late last week.
The campaign includes cleaning wastes, and housing courts in which waste can be used to breed the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, vector of the disease, spraying and informing the public of methods of prevention and care of the need to suspicion of infection.
Although a constant curse, this year, dengue has hit particularly virulent in this country, where nearly four thousand people are infected with the disease, which is endemic to Central America and the Caribbean, which can be deadly hemorrhagic variant.
There are benign manifestations of the disease which leads to think that the official number of patients is superior to that offered by authorized means.
The announcement follows the report last night that a minor swelled the list of fatalities from the outbreak of the disease that involve specialists has combined with the influenza A (H1N1) which explains its rapid conversion in morbidity and bleeding.
Apart from dengue, hospital media refer to an outbreak of leptospirosis, another annual scourge that has claimed more than two dozen victims in this Caribbean country.
An outbreak of a virus known at present put residents on edge in a town in the province of Puerto Plata (north), but subsequent studies showed that it is a variant of leptospirosis.
