For the week ending November 9, 2013, the geographic spread of influenza-like illness (ILI) in Alabama was REGIONAL. This means that reported ILI visits from sentinel providers was significantly higher in at least two, but fewer than half, Public Health Areas (PHAs) and there were positive influenza specimens tested from the same PHAs within the past three weeks. Sentinel providers from Tuscaloosa, Dothan and Mobile areas (PHAs 3, 10, and 11) reported significantly high ILI and submitted positive influenza specimens. Since the start of the 2013-2014 influenza season, of the specimens submitted to the Bureau of Clinical Laboratories (BCL) for influenza testing, 40 (53.3%) were positive for influenza. All positive specimens were identified as Influenza A, 2009 H1N1.
For the week ending November 17, 2013, the geographic spread of influenza-like illness (ILI) in Alabama was REGIONAL. This level indicates that the percentage of patients with ILI was significantly higher in at least two, but fewer than half, Public Health Areas (PHAs) and there were positive influenza specimens from the same PHAs within the past three weeks.
Since the beginning of the 2013-2014 influenza season, 51 (49%) of the specimens submitted to the Bureau of Clinical Laboratories (BCL) for influenza testing, were positive for influenza. All positive specimens have been identified as Influenza A, 2009 H1N1.
For the week ending November 30, 2013, the geographic spread of influenza-like illness (ILI) in Alabama was REGIONAL.
