Aiken County sends home pupils with swine flu virus
More than 50 Aiken County pupils have been sent or kept home with flulike symptoms, and 11 of the cases have been confirmed as the H1N1 virus, according to Cecelia Davidson, associate superintendent for administration.
State Department of Health and Environmental Control standards require any pupil with a fever more than 100 degrees, a sore throat, cough and body aches will be classified as having flulike symptoms and documented in district health reports.
Students cannot return to school until their temperature is below 100 with no medication. Such students are also banned from school sports. Letters have been sent home to parents where students have been diagnosed with the swine flu, officials said.
