Another case of African swine fever (ASF) has been confirmed in farm pigs in east Germany, Germany’s federal agriculture ministry said this week.

Germany reported an ASF outbreak on a pig farm in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a region considered to be free of the disease so far. "The national reference laboratory - the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) - has today detected the animal disease in corresponding samples and will now also investigate the cause of the pathogen's entry into the herd," announced the German Ministry of Agriculture on Monday.
After the number of fattening pigs died on the farm in the Rostock region, samples were sent to the FLI for investigation, which confirmed the suspicion. ..

BERLIN (Reuters) – A case of African swine fever was detected on a farm containing around 35 animals in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, the food and agriculture ministry said on Thursday.

Perhaps it was just a matter of time, the first case of African Swine Fever was confirmed on July 2 on a pig farm in Lower Saxony, Germany, the number 1 pig state in the country.

The outbreak was discovered on a farm with 280 sows and roughly 1,500 piglets, according to the authorities in Lower Saxony. The farm is located in the south of the Emsland district, which is roughly 20km from the border with the Netherlands.

The outbreak was suspected since the night of Friday July 1, and was confirmed by the German reference laboratory Friedich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI)in the course of Saturday, July 2. All animals on the farm will be euthanised, and potential contact farms will also be investigated. ...
