Influenza-like illness (ILI) activity is currently low within the MHS and most overseas DoD laboratory surveillance networks
Compared to the previous three years, clinic visits for ILI remained low across all geographic regions and all Service
There were no influenza positive specimens collected and tested in Week 40. The most recent positive influenza result was collected in Week 39 at Naval Hospital - Guam (2009 H1N1)
Two sentinel sites (USCG Clinic Ketchikan & Incirlik AB) have experienced ILI activity above the surveillance threshold level (greater than two standard deviations above the eight-year average) in Week 39

Influenza-like illness (ILI) and Pneumonia and Influenza (P&I) incidence rates increased this week after a drop in rates last week, most like due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
The percent of all outpatient visits due to ILI increased slightly for most regions. Service member percents were at or below baseline and previous season percents, while beneficiary percents were at or above baseline and previous season percents.
The percent of all outpatient visits due to P&I decreased for all regions except PACOM beneficiaries, which increased slightly. Percents were at or below baseline and previous season percents.
There have been 10 reportable medical event (RME) influenza cases since week 40 (4 were vaccinated against influenza). An additional 15 cases were reported among other beneficiaries.

Seven influenza A, three influenza B, and one untyped influenza A/B were detected from laboratory samples this week (includes molecular and rapid tests); the proportion of influenza positive slightly increased by 0.6% from previous week.

Influenza-like illness (ILI) incidence rate decreased slightly since Week 49 within the MHS and influenza activity is low across all overseas DoD laboratory surveillance networks. However, US beneficiary percents have increased since week 46 and are above baseline and previous seasons.

There were 13 reportable medical event (RME) influenza cases since week 40 (5 were vaccinated against influenza); an additional 23 cases were reported among other beneficiaries.

Thirteen influenza A, two influenza B, and one untyped influenza A/B were detected from laboratory samples this week (includes molecular and rapid tests); 3.2% of all tests were influenza positive. One of 28 tested specimens collected during Week 49 was found to be positive for influenza A/H1N1.

Three positive influenza A/H1 and five A/H3 samples were identified among recruits last week; influenza cases are elevated in recruit and dependent populations since last week with A/H3 predominating.
Type 14 adenovirus is present, but at low levels, at MCRD Parris Island.

Europe: Moderate influenza activity with co-circulation of influenza A/H1, A/H3, and B (USEUCOM).
North Africa: Low influenza activity with co-circulation of influenza A/H3 and B (NAMRU-3).
East Africa: Low influenza activity with co- circulation of influenza A/H1, A/H3, and B (USAMRU-K).
Central Africa: Low ILI activity with no influenza detected (USAMRU-K).
South America: Moderate influenza activity with co-circulation of influenza A/H1, A/H3, and B (NAMRU-6)
