KABUL (Pajhwok): The number of positive coronavirus cases in Afghanistan has increased to 174, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Tuesday.

MoPH spokesman Wahidullah Mayar said on 60 tests, four were positive -- two from Kandahar and one each from Daikundi and Nimroz provinces. At least 29 new positive cases have been detected in Herat, Kandahar, Daikundi and Nimroz provinces, taking Afghanistan’s tally to 174...

KABUL, April 2 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan authorities on Thursday confirmed 43 new COVID-19 cases, bringing to 239 the total number of patients in the country since the outbreak of the disease in mid February.

"Forty-one people, including 17 women and 24 men, were tested positive for COVID-19 in western Herat province and two people were infected in Kabul city," Wahidullah Mayar, spokesman of Ministry of Public Health, said in a statement.

"The patients have been sent for the quarantine process," he said.

Out of 239 cases, 184 cases were reported in Herat...

Confirmed COVID-19 cases rise to 273 in Afghanistan

A total of 19 more confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of the patients carrying the disease to 273, Public Health Ministry spokesman Wahidullah Mayar said Friday.

According to the official, 15 new positive cases including 11 men and four women were confirmed in Herat province, the epicenter of the disease bordering Iran and the remaining four others were detected in other provinces...

Wahidullah Mayar, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health early on Sunday said that 38 new cases have been confirmed, bringing the total cases in Afghanistan to 337.

The new 38 cases were recorded in Kabul (10), Herat (10), Kandahar (8), Paktia (3), Balkh (2), Samangan (2), Kapisa (1), Takhar (1) and Zabul (1) provinces.

Seven people are reported dead from coronavirus in Afghanistan, and12 others have recovered.

...In Afghanistan, MoPH data showed that 444 people across 24 provinces were confirmed to have the virus and 15 people have now died. The case fatality rate is 3.4 per cent. As of 7 April, there were 41 confirmed cases among healthcare workers in Afghanistan and one death. Importantly, more people have now acquired the virus inside Afghanistan than have brought it from other affected countries. Hirat is still the most affected part of the country, now with 257 of the confirmed cases, as of 7 April. To date, MoPH reported that 3,103 tests have been conducted. To scaleup testing efforts, WHO has supported the Government to establish two testing facilities in Kabul, two in Hirat, one in Mazar-e-Sharif, one in Kandahar and one in Nangarhar province with more to come. Altogether, the Government plans to expand to 15 testing facilities across the country within the month.

There has been a surge in people returning to Afghanistan across the border from Pakistan over the past three days. An estimated 60,000 people crossed into Afghanistan at the Torkham and Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossings since the border was re-opened on 6 April – many without undergoing formal document checking/registration and health screening...

COVID-19 positive cases rise to 484 in Afghanistan

KABUL, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The number of patients infected with the COVID-19 in Afghanistan has risen to 484, Wahidullah Mayar, the spokesman for the Public Health Ministry, said on Thursday.

According to Mayar, 40 more positive cases have been confirmed over the past 24 hours and of these, 10 are in the capital city Kabul, 14 in the western Nimroz which borders Iran and the remaining are in other parts of the insurgency-plagued country...Fifteen COVID-19 affected patients have died since the outbreak of the virus in mid February in Afghanistan and 32 others have recovered, Mayar asserted..

EU and Afghan officials have discussed the solutions to mitigate economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic in Afghanistan, as the number of confirmed cases in the country reached 521 after a surge of infections in Kabul, Akhtar Mohammad Makoii reports from Herat.

Thirty-seven new patients tested positive for Covid-19 in last 24 hours, 16 of the, in the country’s capital, Kabul, bringing the total in the city to 111. Kabul went under full lockdown on Wednesday, in a bid to contain spread of coronavirus in the city of around 6 million people.

Eight new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Herat, Afghanistan’s worst affected area so far with 265 confirmed cases and four deaths. No suspected patients had tested for two days in Herat after the city ran out of testing kits.

The European Union has directed €117m to help Afghanistan’s fight against the coronavirus as the country’s number of confirmed cases reached 600, my colleague Akhtar Mohammad Makoii reports.

All roads to the capital, Kabul, were blocked this morning, with tightened restrictions on movement in a city of about 6 million people. Afghanistan has recorded 45 new cases in the last 24 hours – 28 of which were in Kabul and eight in Kandahar.

The EU said it recognised that Afghanistan “may be severely affected” by the pandemic as its public health system is “weakened by years of conflict, has to cope with limited resources, and is not accessible throughout the country”.


Afghanistan has so far reported 18 deaths of Covid-19 and 37 recoveries. Concerns are high in Kandahar as thousands of Afghan migrants poured back from Pakistan in recent days.

The Health Ministry spokesman, Wahidullah Mayar, at a press conference on Monday said that 58 new COVID-19 cases have been registered in the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 665.

The 58 new cases were registered in Kandahar (28), Kabul (13), Helmand (7), Nimruz (6), Takhar (3) and Kunduz (1), according to the Health Ministry.

The total cases in Herat is now 280.

Kandahar health officials said that with the 28 new positive coronavirus cases the total in the province rose to 75.

With the seven new cases reported in Helmand, the total in the province is now 9, local officials said.

The Ministry of Public Health said in a statement Tuesday that 49 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Afghanistan in the past 24 hours.

According to the statement, the cases have been registered in Kabul 18, Kandahar 15, Balkh 6, Herat 4, Ghazni 4 and Nangarhar 2.

It brings the total affected people to 714 with 23 deaths and 40 covered, the ministry confirmed.

The total cases of COVID-19 in Afghanistan have risen to 906, the Ministry of Public Health confirms.

The ministry says that 66 new cases of Coronavirus have been registered in the country during the past 24 hours.

The cases have been recorded in Kabul 26, Kandahar 15, Balkh 6, Kunduz 5, Herat 5, Helmand 4, Laghman 3, Nangarhar and Kunar 1, the ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, 45 patients – 43 in Herat, one in Ghor and one in Kandahar – have been recovered and discharged to the hospitals during the past 24 hours.

So far 30 people have died of the virus while 99 others have been recovered.

The Ministry of Public Health said Saturday that 27 new cases of COVID-19 have been registered in Afghanistan.

Wahidullah Mayar, the ministry’s spokesman said that the cases were recorded Kabul 12, Paktia 7, Logar 4, Herat 2, Bamyan 1, Daikundi 1 during the past 24 hours.

It brings the total affected people to 933 in the country.

Mayar added that 13 patients were covered and fully discharged from the hospitals during the past 24 hours, bringing the total recovered to 112.
