The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has released its recommendations for the prevention and control of influenza in the upcoming season, providing two options for determining the number of vaccine doses certain children need.
The guidance, published online ahead of the October issue of Pediatrics, was developed in parallel with the CDC recommendations, drawing from reports and discussions with the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and it remains consistent with the agency's advice.
Like the CDC recommendations, the AAP's guidance includes two options for vaccine dosing in children ages 6 months through 8 years. Younger children are not able to be vaccinated and older children need only one dose, advice that is unchanged from last year.
