GUADALAJARA, JALISCO .- epidemiological and serological studies revealed that one year of the first pandemic of the century, the influenza A H1N1, 20 million Mexicans were infected by new virus, to a greater or lesser extent, and according to official reports, resulted in a thousand 180 deaths.
Most of them did not show significant symptoms and therefore were not considered medical patients, according to information from the Ministry of Health Jalisco.
Symptoms of people that were in that situation were perhaps fatigue, mild flu or a headache.
However, having been infected, develop antibodies, so do not develop the disease, acquired what is called "herd immunity," according to the aforementioned source.
In addition to these 20 million natural immunity, the Ministry of Health vaccinated an additional 23 million people who reside in Mexico.
Probably some of those vaccinated had developed natural antibodies, but thanks to these two actions, at least one third of Mexicans is already immune to the disease, which means that the channels of contagion shall henceforth be long and much less aggressive.
In this regard, Dr. Alejandro Macias Hernandez, special commissioner for the Care of Influenza, reinforced: "This situation makes us think that we will not have a major resurgence."
He also infectious diseases at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition "Salvador Zubir?n", detailed in schoolchildren and young people under 45 years of age, the infection rate up to 40%, but in people over 45 can be less than 15 percent.
It was the April 23, 2009 when the Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova Villalobos, spoke on television to announce the suspension of classes at all levels in the Federal District and the State of Mexico, because it faced an unknown disease, which called "atypical influenza."
Subsequent to that announcement were experienced unprecedented situations in the country, especially between the last week of April and early May: the public was invited to stay at home, the students had anticipated holiday and closed most of the lines of business
