I sent this letter on March 19th to governor Crist's office regarding naming a pandemic influenza tsar for the state.
It is necessary.
This person would report to the governor and:
1) Oversee state efforts,
2) Coordinate information,
3) Interface on the behalf of Florida with the CDC, NIH, White House, etc.,
4) Make recommendations to the Governor.
5) Coordinate with adjoining states to determine regional demand/supply issues,
6) Assist in media efforts to inform.

Dear Mr. Crist,
I am writing today to ask that you appoint a Pandemic Tsar to facilitate Florida?s
pandemic influenza preparedness and response plans.
As I am sure you know the threat of an influenza pandemic with a high case fatality
rate similar to that of the pandemic of 1918 is real. The CDC, NIH, HHS, Office
of the President, and various branches of the military have implemented programs
to prepare and respond to this threat.
Unfortunately the federal government will be overwhelmed in such an emergency and
the administration of the regional situations will be the responsibility of the
different states and localities.
To best coordinate the many agencies and local governments in Florida there is a
need for a ?Pandemic Tsar? to facilitate such an effort.
