Swine flu victim 10th to die in SA

A TENTH South Australian has died with swine flu, health authorities confirmed yesterday.

The woman, 47, died in a residential home in Adelaide last Monday.

The Coroner will determine the cause of death.

A SA Health spokesman said residents and staff at the home had been assessed by a GP and received appropriate treatment.

SA HEALTH'S SWINE FLU STATUS REPORT

There have been 5866 confirmed cases of swine flu in SA.

Fifty five people remain in hospital with the virus, including eight in intensive care.

Nationally, 112 people diagnosed with Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 influenza have died.

This includes 33 in New South Wales, 25 in Queensland and 21 in Victoria.

Two more deaths related to swine flu in South Australia have taken to 14 the number of deaths in the state from the outbreak.

SA Health Department says an elderly woman, 72, died on Thursday in Calvary Hospital.

A man, 60, died earlier in the month at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Both had other medical conditions as well.

There are 54 people with swine flu currently in SA hospitals, 14 of them in intensive care.

More SA swine flu deaths

Two more people with swine flu have died in South Australia.

SA Health says a woman in her 50s with an underlying medical condition died at the Flinders Medical Centre on Wednesday.

SA Health also says it has been told by Forensic Science SA about the death of a woman in her 40s who tested positive to the virus.

Her death is being investigated by the Coroner.

South Australia has now recorded 16 swine flu deaths.

A 19-year-old man has become the 17th person to die with swine flu in South Australia, health authorities say.

It is understood the man had underlying health conditions.

SA Health, in a statement released, said the man died with H1N1 influenza at the Lyell McEwin Hospital on Friday.

There have been 8,094 confirmed cases of H1N1 in South Australia, and currently there are 42 patients in hospital, five of them in intensive care.
