Health authorities on alert for virulent dengue outbreak that has left eight people dead so far this year. Most deaths have occurred from complications of Dengue hemorrhagic type, in the past two weeks, in children aged 4 to 14. Official figures recorded at least 1589 people affected; 1.562 for classic dengue and hemorrhagic 27.
Managua is the most affected with 600 cases and five of the eight deaths. In Masaya are counted two dead and one in Esteli was reported earlier this year. "We face a situation that is highly imperative. The features with dengue occurring at this time does not wait, it's urgent attention to early symptoms," Gonzalez said at a news conference.
The situation is exacerbated because "we have two" with dengue and influenza viruses, and a person can get the two diseases. "In fact what has been happening and (...) is a fatal combination," he said. This is a time to act "very calmly, very quietly," but you have to bring patients to health centers when the first symptoms of fever, vomiting and abdominal pain, and not wait to see its development, Gonzalez insisted.
Gonzalez also urged private hospitals to "immediately refer" patients that they receive the public health system, because "this is a situation that we see it as an emergency."
