AHI is a cross border issue, although national governments needs to have an integrated plan to tackle the problem, they could not face it in isolation. This seminar series, facilitated by the East Asia Global Development Learning Network (GDLN), provides an exchange forum for national governments, international organizations, and experts across the globe.
The first seminar, chaired by Tamar Manuelyan Atinc, Advisor to the World Bank?s East Asia Pacific Vice President, focused on the important topic of ?Integrated Country Programs for Avian and Human Influenza?, with participation from senior level ministry and technical experts from Vietnam, Turkey, Thailand, Nigeria, and <ST1

In addition that that, representatives from civil society, donor community, the World Bank, UN, WHO, FAO, UNICEF, and the European Commission also took an active role. The event, also web cast live on the internet, enabled an interactive exchange of experience and practice between officials and experts responsible for coordinating their government?s response to AHI.
?Stopping or controlling avian flu is a true global public good, which all countries have an interest in acquiring. These seminars provide an opportunity for countries to share their experiences, exchange views on the specific challenges they face, learn about the solutions that other countries have adopted, and bring issues to the attention of concerned policymakers worldwide,? commented Jim Adams, Vice President, OPCS.
