A first confirmed flu case in the Bolivian Amazon

08 July 2009, 17:43 La Paz, July 8 (PL) Bolivia health authorities today confirmed the first case of influenza A (H1N1) in the Amazon region of Beni, Pando which was the next to two of nine of the country Andean patients did not show.
Bolivia recorded to date nearly 600 affected with influenza, according to the same source.
The Director of Health Service Department in Beni, Ernesto Moses reported that the National Center for Tropical Diseases, the first confirmed infection in a woman aged 17 living in the city of Trinidad.
"The patient contracted the disease in a camp in the city of Cochabamba, where he had close to a patient who was positive in Santa Cruz," he said.
The Health Ministry reported on Tuesday to more than 530 cases of the epidemic in seven regions, mostly in Santa Cruz (East).
In the internal spread of the virus in Bolivia, the Health Minister, Ramiro Tapia, suggested to the departments of Santa Cruz, Cochabamba and La Paz, regions reporting the highest number of cases, social distancing measures for a period of five days .
In response to this suggestion, a prosecutor in Santa Cruz decided to order the suspension of a concert by the Puerto Rican Daddy Yankee regatonero scheduled for next Saturday.
