A good start might be for the media to refer to homeless people as 'homeless people' or 'homeless human beings' or 'people who have no homes,' rather than just 'homeless.'

WAILUKU - A 30-year prison term was handed down Wednesday to a 48-year-old man described as the ringleader of a group that sodomized and beat a homeless man in Lahaina two years ago.

Second Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo ordered Scott Garber to serve at least six years and eight months in prison before he is eligible for release because he is a repeat offender. The judge ordered him to pay $1,200 in restitution.

Loo said the 38-year-old victim was treated like a "rag doll."

"He was hog-tied, sodomized, tortured . . . It was such as sadistic act on your behalf," Loo told Garber. "He suffered tremendously at your hands."...
