A 38-year-old Kankakee man has died of complications from the H1N1 flu.

The man is the first death linked to H1N1 in Kankakee County.

The man, who has not been identified by officials, died on Oct. 22 and had an underlying chronic health condition, said Bonnie Schaafsma, Kankakee County Health Department administrator. He had not sought treatment from a medical provider nor had be been hospitalized.

After he died, officials sent a sample to state laboratories and earlier this week, results confirmed that he had H1N1
