British teacher dies from TB

A young British teacher has died from tuberculosis after being allowed to leave hospital in Hong Kong and return to Britain.
Clare Lennon, 29, had been working in a Chinese school for five years before becoming ill in April and being admitted to hospital for treatment.
But despite being admitted to an isolation ward after CT scans showed advanced throat and stomach damage and a positive TB test, she was allowed to discharge herself.
Eight days after her return she lost her battle against the condition and died in Torbay Hospital on April 24.
Her death prompted an international alert, with health protection agencies in the UK and Hong Kong rushing to contact 328 people who had physical contact with Miss Lennon.
Public health officials in both countries have been testing people who were on her Cathay Pacific CX257 flight to London on April 17.
All staff and pupils at the school where taught as well as close family and friends in Britain have also been tested.
As a result two people in Hong Kong have been found positive and are being treated for TB.
Meanwhile friends from around the globe have paid tribute to Miss Lennon and say "there is a gap in all her friends lives that will never be filled".
Lisa Ingledew, her best friend speaking from London, said: "She was the kind of person who had the ability to light up a whole room and at social events, people would be drawn to her."
Miss Lennon was an only child. Her family did not wish to comment.
Laurence Knight, of the Health Protection Agency in the South West, said risks to passengers on the flight were low.
Her death sparked a major public health inquiry in Hong Kong over why she was allowed to leave hospital despite suffering from TB.
The hospital involved, St Paul's, has admitted "miscommunication" in failing to report a positive TB test result to Hong Kong's Department of Health.
Allegations that Miss Lennon's test results were misplaced by staff in the Chinese region until two days after her death in Devon are also being investigated.
A statement issued by the Department of Health in Hong Kong said: "The department took a vigilant stand on this incident.
"A letter has been sent to the hospital reminding the management to look into its internal reporting procedures.
"Timely notification is important for the effective control and prevention of infectious diseases.
"The Department of Health will continue to liaise with health authorities in the United Kingdom, where the patient concerned passed away on April 24, to ascertain the culture results there."
