? Epidemiological comments
The epidemiological surveillance in the infected area and all over the country is completed and no new outbreaks have been detected since 29 January 2008.
After cleaning and disinfection of the infected premises were completed, sentinel birds were put in infected and at risk premises to detect the presence of the avian influenza virus; all birds were tested for highly pathogenic avian influenza virus and all results were negative.
All restrictions on the infected premises were lifted after completion of the sentinel flocks testing.
Therefore, Saudi Arabia declares itself free from highly pathogenic avian influenza with effect from 30 April 2008 in accordance with article 2.7.12.4 of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code.
