United Nations, April 14 (Bloomberg) .- Some 75 percent of new diseases that afflict humanity have their origin in animals, as in the case of human influenza A/H1N1, warned a report released today by United Nations and the World Bank.
According to the study animal''and pandemic influenza: a framework for continued efforts,''arise each year, on average, two new animal diseases that have the ability to infect humans and that this rate could increase and extend its reach into the future.
''The emergence of three major epidemiological events in the first decade of the new century, SARS, H5N1 avian influenza and pandemic A/H1N1- is an indication of the rate at which the threats continue to emerge,''the report settled.
The report was presented as a working reference prior to the International Conference of Ministers on animal influenza and pandemic influenza, to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 20 April.
