31 people killed as monsoon rain lashes Sri Lanka

Colombo: Naval boats and helicopters scoured seas off Sri Lanka on Monday for dozens of missing fishermen, as the death toll from strong monsoon rains and winds rose to 31, an official said.
The dead fishermen were listed as missing since the monsoon hit the island early on Saturday, destroying more than 100 houses, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

June 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Centre (DMC) says the death toll from the adverse weather that swept the south western part of the country now stands at 52. Another 16 people are still reported missing and 28 people have received injuries.
The DMC has revised thedeath toll this morning to 52 from an earlier figure of 56.

Sri Lanka tightens safety as monsoon kills 54

The death toll in Sri Lanka from strong monsoon winds and heavy rains rose to 54, as the government announced on Tuesday new safety requirements for small fishing boats.
The Disaster Management Centre said 54 people, mostly fishermen caught in rough seas, have died since the monsoon hit on Saturday morning.
