531 sick at Vegas marathon; source of outbreak unknown

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The Southern Nevada Health District on Thursday said drinking water was not to blame for hundreds of illnesses at the Rock ?n Roll Las Vegas Marathon.
The source of the outbreak hasn't been determined, but in the agency's preliminary report, they said the source could be traced to at least 24-36 prior to the start of the Dec. 4 race.
Since Dec. 8, health officials have surveyed more than 1,000 runners. About half of them -- 531 -- reported getting sick during or immediately following the race.

The health district said it will continue testing for sapovirus, astrovirus and adenovirus, three pathogens that cause gastrointestinal and respiratory illnesses and have been linked to similar outbreaks.
