Latest information from the Disease Prevention and Control Centre show that in the past two weeks influenza infection cases did not exceed 100 cases per 100,000 residents in any of the monitored regions in Latvia. With that, SPKC announces the end of the influenza epidemic. National Health Service reminds that the end of influenza epidemic also means the end of state-financed family doctor home visits to patients suffering from influenza. This does not apply to residents who are provided with constant paid family doctor visits (children under the age of 18, Group I invalids and other patient groups).
This year, influenza epidemic began at the end of January. Maximum infection rate was reached at the beginning of February. Although experts had noticed different influenza group viruses during the epidemic, the most active one had been A Type influenza viruses. In 2009, influenza epidemic had been affected the most by A/H1N1 virus, which had impacted residents of the age 15 ? 64. Compared to 2013 and 2014, this year?s influenza epidemic in Latvia was the most severe.
According to the latest information, 51 people have died from different complications during this year?s influenza season.
