JACKSON, Miss. - A third Mississippi resident has died of West Nile virus this season.
The Mississippi Department of Health reported the Lee County case on Thursday. So far, there have been 34 nonfatal cases of West Nile this year.
West Nile has been found in Clay, DeSoto, Forrest (6), Harrison (5), Hinds (4), Lamar, Lee (2), Leflore, Marion, Monroe, Neshoba, Rankin (3) and Washington (2) counties.
Two cases of St. Louis encephalitis have been reported in Forrest County.
In 2008, there were 65 confirmed cases of the mosquito-borne illness in the state with three deaths.
