Contra Costa County
Fourth swine flu death reported: An elderly woman with pre-existing health conditions has become the fourth person to die from complications related to swine flu in Contra Costa County.
The woman passed away July 8, county health officials said.
Two middle-aged men died in June, and a school-age girl died May 29.
At least 302 county residents have been confirmed as having swine flu, otherwise known as the H1N1 virus. Although the county has stopped routinely testing for the bug, health officials believe many more people have been sickened.
Most people have mild symptoms and recover, health officials say.
