47-day-old Auburn girl dies during routine doctor visit

An Auburn, Ala., infant died Monday during a routine doctor?s visit, authorities said.

The child?s 31-year-old mother was at her doctor?s for her six-week, follow-up visit around 2 p.m. CST when the doctor noticed the 47-day-old girl wasn?t acting normally, Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said.

The doctor took both the mother and child to a hospital across the street because the girl was coughing and for congestion, Opelika Police Capt. Alan Elkins said.

The child stopped breathing and couldn?t be revived. The infant was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m. CST, Harris said.

The baby was sent to Montgomery for an autopsy. No foul play is suspected, Elkins said.

Feb. 4--The investigation into the death of a 6-week-old baby continues.

The child, whose identity has not been released by police, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, according to Opelika Police Capt. Allan Elkins.

The child is described only as an "Asian female" by Elkins.

"The child was a resident of Auburn and was alive when it was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center's emergency room but died while receiving treatment," Elkins said.

The child was taken to the EAMC at approximately 2 p.m. Monday, according to Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.

The body of the child has since been transported to the state medical examiner's office in Montgomery for autopsy.

"Preliminary autopsy results are still pending at this time," Harris said.

No foul play is suspected at this time in the death of the child, according to Harris, who said autopsy results could take anywhere between 60 and 90 days to come back.

The two stories are diffferent, right? First story states at MD for routine check, second story does not or did I not read right?
So, if I am reading right, we really do not know what was going on, yet

No same story, different details.

The mother takes the child to the doctor for a six week check up on Monday afternoon (?). The doctor suspects a problem and they immediately go across the street to the hospital. The child was alive on admission to the hospital around 2 pm. The child dies at the hospital either at 5:15 pm on Monday or 5:15 am the next morning.

Opelika Police investigate baby death

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - A baby girl has passed away after living for only 47 days and officials are working to find out why and how her life was cut so short.
Police say the baby's mother had an appointment at the OB/GYN Clinic in Opelika Monday afternoon and took the infant with her.
During that appointment, the Lee County Coroner tells WTVM the doctor noticed something wasn't quite right with the six-week-old baby and rushed her across the street in his personal car to the East Alabama Medical Center.

"It is our understanding that the child was brought to the emergency room by a doctor from the OB/GYN Clinic in Opelika. The child exhibited signs of coughing and congestion. While being treated, the infant died while in the doctor's care," said Captain Allan Elkins, with the Opelika Police Department.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris says the baby's condition continued to decline once she arrived at the Medical Center.

Harris says an emergency flight crew was getting ready to airlift the infant to Birmingham Children's Hospital when she went into cardiac arrest and passed away.
At this point, authorities do not suspect foul play but they are still calling it a death investigation.

The coroner says preliminary autopsy results show no signs of injury, neglect or abuse.
However, a cause of death is still pending toxicology testing.
