Ready or not, flu season's here

DENVER, Colo. - Doctors at Denver Health Medical Center say flu season is here early and visits to the ER prove it.

On Tuesday, 467 people went into the Denver Health Emergency Room or Urgent Care facilities, many with flu like symptoms.

"This was especially busy, the fourth busiest day of the year. Normally you don't see that in September," said Dr. Connie Price.

Price says those kind of numbers are more typical for the height of flu season in February. She says the hospital is already considering visitor restrictions because of the flu.

Price believes the majority of flu cases are H1N1, and not the seasonal flu. She says several flu patients did need to be hospitalized, but the good news is the majority of patients are reporting mild symptoms.
