Some further background notes: The Windsor-Essex health unit is bringing back restrictions due to strain on local hospitals which are exporting respiratory syncytial virus patients to London ON and Detriot. The area has a lot of migrant farm workers that live in conditions that are conducive to spreading COVID.

As of Monday morning, 42 out of the roughly 75 people present at Elite Restaurant (20-22 Main St. W.) between Nov. 18 and Dec. 2 have tested positive. The outbreak, which stems from a single social gathering on Nov. 18, prompted a high-risk public exposure notice from the health unit.

Under current provincial pandemic rules, only fully vaccinated individuals may dine indoors at restaurants, and restaurants are required to ensure each patron shows proof of vaccination.

The health unit continues to investigate the outbreak to determine if all of the infected people were fully vaccinated, “and if there were any breaches in adherence to public health guidance,” the top doctor said.
